Technology is changing the lives of us all daily on a global scale. By delivering a high-quality computing curriculum here at Marden Lodge, we inspire & equip the next generation to participate in the rapidly changing world. Computing skills and computational thinking are a major factor in enabling children to become resilient, creative and critical digital citizens, understanding their role and responsibilities in the digital landscape.

At Marden Lodge our vision is for children to be confident users of technology so that we can develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that will enable them to develop a curiosity for learning and inspire creativity. We ensure that children know how to use technology safely and responsibly, putting a high importance on e-safety as part of our Safeguarding Curriculum.

We aim to develop pupils who, by the end of primary school:

  • Are responsible, confident and creative users of technology that apply computational thinking beyond the computing curriculum.

  • Become digitally literate and are active participants in a digital world.

  • Know how to stay safe whilst using technology and on the internet, minimising risk to themselves and others.

  • Understand and follow agreed E-Safety rules, and know who to contact if they have concerns, including the use of report buttons.

  • Have repeated practical experience writing computer programs in order to solve problems, including logic and algorithms.

  • Ask and answer questions through collection, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information.

  • Understand how digital networks work and the services they provide.

  • Use search options effectively; understanding the need to evaluate the relevance of content.

To achieve these outcomes, the children have weekly computing lessons where they use devices including iPads and Chromebooks. Our children also use technology across the curriculum to help deepen their knowledge in various subjects.

Class Dojo

As part of our response to COVID-19 we have introduced Class Dojo. Class Dojo is a school communication platform that teachers, students, and families use every day to build close-knit communities by sharing what’s being learned in the classroom with home (through photos, videos, and messages.)

You can find more information about Class Dojo and how we use it at school, and for remote learning, in the attachments.
